Overview

You support tired patients who struggle to lose weight or remain lost despite levothyroxine treatment, and their thyroid panel comes back "strictly normal". This training gives you the physiological and biochemical keys to spot these functional hypothyroidisms that TSH alone misses, understand their deep cause and build genuinely personalised management.

What you will learn

  • Master the synthesis and activation of thyroid hormones (the role of iodine, tyrosine, TPO, deiodinases, NIS and membrane transporters) to pinpoint exactly where the mechanism seizes up in each patient.
  • Reason along four main axes of hypothyroidism (defective T4 synthesis, defective conversion to T3, excessive conversion to reverse T3, defective T3 bioactivity), then refine by categories and subcategories to individualise the protocol.
  • Conduct a structured clinical collection of functional signs and score it, in order to spot a thyroid dysfunction even when routine biology is reassuring.
  • Prescribe and interpret a complete functional biology assessment, in particular urinary hormone measurements on 24-hour urine, ioduria, DIO2 polymorphism, anti-TPO and anti-TG antibodies, and the salivary cortisol cycle.
  • Build a micronutritional, phytotherapeutic and dietary strategy tailored to the axis at fault (iodine, selenium, iron, zinc, vitamins D and A, omega-3, glutathione, guggulsterone, kaempferol, ashwagandha).
  • Place hormonal treatments (levothyroxine alone or a T4 and T3 combination) within a logic of optimising the terrain.

On the programme

  • Physiology and biochemistry of the thyroid gland, from iodine absorption to the peripheral conversion of T4 to T3.
  • The four axes of thyroid dysfunction, their categories and subcategories, as a management decision tree.
  • The clinical collection and the functional questionnaire of hypothyroidism signs, with a scoring system.
  • The functional biology of the thyroid, the value of 24-hour urinary measurements and the DIO2 genetic polymorphism.
  • The key micronutrients of thyroid function, their target status, forms and supplementation methods.
  • The phytoactives studied in thyroid disorders.
  • The systemic links to explore, mitochondria, adrenals (cortisol and aldosterone), gut ecosystem and metabolic endotoxaemia, environmental pollution.
  • A module dedicated to Hashimoto's thyroiditis, autoimmunity, gluten, oxidative stress, modulation of the immune response and the controversy around iodine.
  • Commented clinical cases to anchor the reasoning.

Who it is for

This training is for doctors and pharmacists, as well as healthcare professionals engaged in micronutrition and functional medicine, who prescribe, dispense or support patients presenting with hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

At the end of the training

You will be able to spot a functional hypothyroidism behind a normal routine assessment, then trace back to the deepest cause by reasoning through axes and subgroups. You will be able to prescribe and interpret a relevant functional biology assessment, and offer overall management combining micronutrition, phytotherapy, a dietary model and, when justified, support of the hormonal treatment. You will thus have a 360-degree view of thyroid function to individualise your protocols patient by patient.
